Serving at St. John
We exist to bring glory to God by making disciples through worship, community, and service.bOut of this service is the overflow of discipleship, serving those in and outside the church.
The Meal Ministry is a compassionate outreach dedicated to sharing God’s love through the gift of nourishment and presence. Offered on the first Wednesday of each month, this ministry provides home-cooked meals to church members and community neighbors who may be experiencing illness, hardship, or simply need a reminder that they are not alone.
By preparing and delivering meals, volunteers have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference—not only meeting physical needs but also offering encouragement and care in Christ’s name. This is a tangible way to serve God by serving others, embodying the spirit of hospitality and grace.
Volunteers Needed: We welcome helping hands to assist with meal preparation, packaging, and delivery. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or simply have a heart to serve, your time and presence can bless someone deeply.
Together, we bring comfort, connection, and kindness—one meal at a time.
Bites for Bitty Ones (Backpack Ministry)
The Bites for Bitty Ones program, also known as Backpack Buddies, is dedicated to supporting children from economically disadvantaged families by providing nutritious, child-friendly meals to sustain them over the weekend.
Volunteers from St. John United Methodist Church gather once a month to pack food, which is then distributed among students on alternating Friday's.
St. John UMC shares this important outreach ministry with Ascension Catholic Church in Hurricane, WV, working together to serve students at Lakeside Elementary School.

Our English Meadows & Lavender Hills Ministry is a heartfelt outreach that brings the comfort of Christ’s presence to residents through worship, prayer, and sacrament. Rooted in compassion and community, this ministry offers meaningful connection to those in assisted living, reminding them they are cherished members of the body of Christ.
Hymns & Prayer On the second Wednesday of each month, we gather at English Meadows/Lavender Hills for a time of hymn singing and prayer. These moments of shared worship uplift spirits, stir memories, and create sacred space for fellowship and peace.
Holy Communion On the first Sunday of each month, we return to share Holy Communion with the residents—a quiet, reverent celebration of God’s grace and abiding love.
This ministry is not only a gift to those we serve, but also a blessing to those who participate. Through song, prayer, and sacrament, we embody Christ’s call to care for one another and extend the embrace of the Church beyond its walls.
Christian Community Cupboard
